Just clicked on DVD player and Message reads There was an initialization error a valid DVD drive could not be found. (-70012) Help is there anything i can do?

i mac G5 17" 1.8mhz, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I'm not really replying to my own question here, just adding some more info.

I have re-booted an old Cloned backup, on my firewire hd, checked about the (this mac) utility and sure enough internal DVD is all present and correct, I have tried the dvd player and it starts fine, no warning messages.

So it must be a software issue I'm guessing.

I have run a disk utility and there were masses of permission problems, repaired these and am now repairing a verification issue.

The OSX I am running currently is 10.4.11 the problem OSX is 10.5.8.

Going to reboot and see if it has solved the case of the disapearing dvd drive.
