Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Have you tried resetting the PMU?

The PMU (Power Management Unit) controls trackpad function, so resetting it often helps when the trackpad isn't working (or isn't working right).

    Hi Ronda

    Thanks for answere me

I've tried to reset the PMU following these istructions:

    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

But nothing changes...my trackpad doesn't click

I've tried also to reinstall tiger from the beginning without use any external mouse...but nothing changed...

don't understand, a few years ago I remember to have reinstalled tiger but with no problems at all...

Is there any mode to reinstall the trackpad driver?

Do you have the original system discs that came with the iBook when it was new?

yes I have used the origilal discs that came with the ibook...I suppose that apple doesn't care anymore about ibooks so the updates are not accurate as before 'cause I'm sure that last time I've refreshed my system the trackpad worked fine

Check out the Archive and Install section of this Apple Knowledge Base article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545

Do you know if you have enough available space on your hard drive to accomplish the Archive and Install?

thanks for the help, but I don't know if "Archive and Install" will help for my problem with the trackpad 'cause when I've refreshed the ibook I've used the option "Erase and install" so everything of the old system is gone...

I suppose there is no solution to my problem

P.S. thank you for your time :-)

Since you've already done an Erase and Install, I would suggest trying it again.

From the Apple Knowledge Base article:

Erase the Mac OS X volume, then restore Mac OS X and all bundled software

Important: This option erases your destination volume (it deletes everything that's on it, including files on your desktop), so be sure that you've backed up your stuff before committing to this choice.

    1. Back up your essential files.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer.
    3. Double-click "Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software."
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions until you get to the destination pane.
    5. In the "Select a destination" window, click Options, then click "Erase and Install."

I'm sory to get back to you so long after your original question Allesio, I have resolved the same problem by buying a corded mouse, plug it in, restart the iBook g4 and that's it!

Even the genius bar guy couldn't figure it out.

    Regards

Well, I'm glad the mouse works for you. At least you can continue to use the iBook.
