Roaming Network, 2 extremes and 1 express
I have a house that is quite spread out. I have been using a network with an airport extreme as the base station and two expresses to extend the network. From the central location to where I have RoadRunner coming into the house to the extreme in my office is about 80 feet. I find that I loose 60% of the connection bandwidth over that distance.
After reading about roaming networks, it became clear that getting another extreme, running a cat 6 to the office and setting it up as a roaming network should do the trick. Ran the cables, bought the extreme. I followed the suggestions here
For some reason, this is not working for me. I follow these instructions precisely and the new extreme will not restart and go to green. I have been trying to trouble shoot to no avail.
Here are the things that are a bit different than what is explained in the above post.
1/I have an express set up in another room set to extend a network. (Is that interfering with me setting up a Bridge in my office?)
2/I have no securtiy on my system. Is that a problem?
3/When I use the Airport Utility, the menus actually look a bit different on the two extremes. I have all the same menu items, but the wirless radio mode menus are slightly different. They both allow for N with backward compatibility, but they are just labeled slightly differently. I assumed that maybe one of the extremes's needed to be updated and when I checked, the software update said that all airports were up to date.
4/After I plug in the new extreme to power and cat 6 and I hit manual setup, it asks me if I want to change networks. I say yes as it is the only way to configure the new exteme. (the only reason I bring this up is because that step is not in the post above, though it seems obvious that I need to do that.
I reset the new extreme and tried again. It just doesn't seem to want to reset. I still have blinking amber.
Other than that, I trashed a couple of walkmen years ago, but I didn't think karma was relavent to technology.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Best
