In a finder window (icon view), I can arrange "by date created". It puts all files/folders in the opposite order as to how I would usually want them though. It puts the newest first to oldest last. Is there any way to have oldest first, newest last? Thanks for the help!

Sorry, but your solution does not change anything about displaying files, especially photos, in the reverse date order (older first) when displaying files in the "by date created". This issue has vexed me for quite some time, with apparently no straighforward solution.
Try using the Date Modified instead of Date Created. Clicking the "Date Modifided" title in the finder when viewing as a list will reverse the order in the finder list. If you are talking about the viewing order inside some application then that's a whole different problem.
Go to list view in finder and click on Date Created column name. If you do not have that column name displayed - go to View > Show View Options and check box next to Date Created.
Finder >arrange by date created -Reverse
