I am new and someone set up my computer so I don't know where/how to go to check the battery on my magic trackpad for my computer.

Go to the BlueTooth icon in the Menu Bar and click. There in the drop down you will find your trackpad listed under Devices. Follow the expansion triangle next to the name of your trackpad and it will give a read-out of the battery level.
Unfortunately, since about the 10.6.7 update and including 10.7 the battery readings in the Bluetooth menu are wildly inaccurate. This little widget gives much more accurate information:

As an example, my Bluetooth battery indicator for my Magic Mouse says I currently have a 100% charge, even though I'm running rechargeables which should only give a max indication of around 85% when fully charged. My MightyMonitor widget tells me I've got 65% charge which is much more accurate given that I charged them up 4 or 5 days ago.
