Cannot reconnect to my Time Machine Backup

I inadvertantly chose a different external drive for my time machine backup. When I realized what I had done, I went back to TM Preferences and although I see the external drive in Finder, it is not listed as an available drive for Time Machine's "Select Backup Disk". Is there any way to reconnect? If I Browse Other TM Disks, I can see all of my TM backups. But not when I try to select the disk. Any suggestions? Thank you.

/Hi David,

No TM expert here, but try turning it off & See if Migration Assistant can see the Backups!?

Or Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, copy/move this file to the Desktop, then trash the original...

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist

Reboot and setup TM again.
