Themes_iPhoto_11_Restore
First look in your HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there move it to the Trash. Also look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one move it to the Trash. Reinstall iPhoto as described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 -files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
3 - mount the disk that iPhoto 11 came on, either an iLife 11 disc or the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
If iPhoto 11 came with the computer then double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install.
Apply all of the latest iPhoto 9 (11) updates followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.

Are you saying to remove these files?
In applications/iPhoto folder, I have three Themes folders: Themes, Themes.common and Themes.db. Erae all three?
When iPhoto is reinstalled, will Events and Faces be restored?
Thank you for your expertise!

Yes, delete those files. Don't mess with the inside of the iPhoto application. Just delete the application and any receipt files you might find.
The library, located in your Pictures folder, is not affected by the reinstallation of the applicaton and will have all of the items in it you had before.
You're great! Thank you!
I just re-insstalled iPhoto and nothing has changred. I still have th corrupted database. The photos are in my computer but did not appear in iPhoto.
Previous to me uninstalling iPhoto, I noticed that about 6000 photos were not included and the date of last import was Dec 2010. I I did the re-indexing as described in the Apple documentation, using a few of what seemed the appropriate choices. No difference. Then I tried a secong time and tried other options. Now I have the same picture of my sister repeated over and over again.
I deleted all of the files described above that I could find. I searched for .BOM files in finder and did not find any associated with iPhoto.
The problem occured after installing Lion.
I do have time machne running, but if I re-install the data will it get corrupted?
Thanks for any help you might provide.
UPDATE:
1. I was able to get the minimal database again so I downloaded iPhoto photo manager and rebuilt the database. However, it was just over 800 photos; about 5500 are AWOL.
2. I reviewed Time Machine and there appears to be inconsistancies. When I get info on the the oldest Time Machine files [December], the files have what appears to be proper documentation, so that the file date in the get info box agrees with the Time Machine. However, more recent files are odd: the date on the
get info box has a November date and many of the backups have the same date, the same size file for iPhoto.
When I restored many files prior to Lion installation, I get the same truncated iPhoto files of 850 about pictures rather than over 6000. Pictures after December 2010 until a few weeks ago are missing from iPhoto, even though I had downloaded many photos during that period, and was able to access them.
A few weeks ago I tried to print from photos from iPhoto, which failed, and the error mesage said I had no themes. The lack of themes is what prompted me to do the uninstal/reinstal.
I have no idea how many photos I have on my HD. I did a search for jpeg's and I saw a lot of the photos missing from iPhoto. There is no way for me to determine if photos have been deleted. There were also some iPhone videos and they are missing from iPhoto. Faces? all blank.
Is my hardrive bad? Apple virus/malware? Lion's new formatting?
Help!
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
You might what to start over from scratch with a new library as described here:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Open the library package like this.
3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Old Toad,
I have a feeling that my HD is going bad for a second time. I did a general search of jpeg files, and there are only 3 between Feb 2011 and May 2011. Files are missing.
Also, I started to do what you just suggested but I have no masters file. This is distressing. Most of these picures are my kids.
If you're running iPhoto 11 and have no Masters folder then there a big problem. If you're running iPhoto 09 then use the Originals folder.
My iPhoto is 11, v9.15. I tried to capture a screen shot of the iPhoto file structure like yours but it never found its way to iPhoto. My directory for iPhoto bears no resemblance to yours. I checked my HD and it is fine.
Do you have a backup copy of your library? If so now would be a good time to bring it forward. Otherwise, it appears that the library is badly damaged and there's not much that can be done.
Screenshots are usually saved to the desktop. They don't need to go into iPhoto to be posted here. Just use the camera icon in the reply toolbar.
I have restored 3 iPhoto files from Time Machine. They are all identical: same file size, same # of photos, same photos. What in the world could be wrong? Maybe I should delete iPhoto, check for updates and see what happens.
You've only shown the structure of the Pictures folder, not of the inside of one of the libraries. Open the various libraries in the finder by Control(right)-clicking on them and select Show Package Contents in the contextual menu. Then check the Masters folder to see if the original files are there. If so create a new library with those files.
Select one of the wierd looking photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option to get to the file. See if you can open that file with Preview without distortion.
I am using I photo 08 with running 10.6.8 system software and cannot print because Themes not loaded.
How di I load Themes?
