Hi.  I went into applications and dragged mackeeper to my trash on my desktop and lap top.  Yet I cannot find "library" or any of the others under the first one?   I am not the best at Mac computers. Sorry, I plan on taking a Mac user class this summer when nursing school gets to take a break.  For now, any suggestions would help.  And something to download for me to keep unnecessary files cleared off?  I write a lot of notes and papers , so I have to "save" alot.  So I see sometimes it saves a file "autorecovery file". So I don't know how to get rid of those or figure out which ones to get rid of.  I assure you I know I sound dumb, but I am not.  I am just not "up to par" in this information that I commend you who are.  So please please help!

I also have Norton on my computers because it comes with my comcast internet.  So Is this a problem. Too.  Ever since I downloaded Lion, I thought that was the problem.  My computers are slower.

Not sure what caused you to highjack this old thread as this has nothing to do with the subject. Unless you have an identical problem you are always better off starting a new thread with an appropriate subject, otherwise nobody will see it.

Don't worry about cleaning anything up except your own files. The OS takes very good care of keeping itself neat and clean. If those autorecovery files are in the trash, then just empty it. If they are elsewhere, the application that put them there will genearally take care of them or they were something you were working on when it crashed, in which case you can decide if you need to save it or not. Bottom line is you don't need a "Cleaner" app with a Mac.

I realize the first year is free from Comcast, but it's not a reaquirement that you use or install it.

It will certainly slow down your computer and others will tell you stories of it doing even worse things. My personal belief is that they have finally fixed most of the serious problems, but I haven't used it since Peter Norton maintained it, so I can't say for certain.

Your computer already has built-in anti-malware protection, so most folks in the Forum will tell you that you don't need anything else yet. There are exceptions for people who frequent sketchy sites, exchange files with Windows users or automatically hit the "OK" button withou thinking, so if you fit into any of those groups, perhaps you need protection from yourself.

LOL - Comcast tried to talk me into Norton's every time I talked to them about anything. I always declined.

Kaspersky now makes a version for Mac. If you really need a virus scanner, this would be the ideal one to use.

I have ClamAV in my computer now but I hardly use it. I'll run it like once a month but Clam can be a pain to set up.

Norton, McAfee both use up huge amounts of resources on your computer and are always running in the background. I stopped using those ages ago when I still used a PC. I used Avast or Avira - both free and they both caught more and protected better than either of those two.

I came across this trying to find help for my solution.  My Macbook Pro started acting funny and I could not click anything (not even force close) in lecture as I was typing notes the other day.  I got scared that I would lose everything so I tried to find posts to help me.  I did start new threads.  No one had responded yesterday when my computer was acting worse.  I uninstalled MacKeeper and Norton antivirus.  I also did the Disk Utility-Repair Permissions that I read somewhere ( I am not dumb, but I honestly have no idea what I am doing here).  Today I tried to turn on my lab top when study group got here and I could not click on anything again.  (I could turn it on and get into my area, but then I could not select anything w/ the mouse).  So honestly, I went on a bunch of threads hoping someone could help me.  I am on my IMAC now writing this, (early 2008 model) My macbook pro is like 2009 I think??  It has 188.68 GB space available it said.  I am just scared I am going to lose everything so I am trying to find help where I can.  I was going to order External Hard drive , but reading the forums- this person says works with lion, this person says doesn't, this product *****. etc.  I barely have time to read in nursing school, let alone try to read all of this-even though I tried.  I am sorry If I offended someone by getting on a previous post.

P.S. and by being a nursing student, most of my classmates are PC users, so I do send files and emails to a lot of windows users.

I have a friend in the tech community who recommends it. I trust his suggestions, tips, and help explicitly. For 5 years he has never mislead me or given me advice on a product I regretted. I don't have Kaspersky installed right now because I already have ClamAV.
