Getting "OSStatus error -19160" when trying to play videos from Web browser

I dropped that url into the vlc media player (using "open network") and it appears to work. Now that may be just because vlc knows how to handle these mms streams or that since that url implies wmv, it may be becuase I also have Perian and Flip4Mac installed, or a combination of all of these.

Quicktime Player doesn't even understand the mms url convention, and Quicktime Player 7 doesn't seem to do anything when I give it that url.

Incidentally, for google searching stuff like this, trying to put unqoted minus signs into the search doesn't work well. You need to double quote such things. Place "error -19610" into google (including the quotes). Then you will find lots of hits. At the time I'm writing this, to beat the 15-minute timeout in editing this post, I hadn't found any satisfying explanation other than you aren't the only one to have seen that error.

For me, that URL opens in VLC and works OK, so I concur with the above suggestion.

I encountered error -19160 while attempting to stream a site that had formerly worked just fine.

I'm using Quicktime 10.0 and I've installed Flip4Mac 2.4 on a Mac Mini with Intel processors. Earlier in the day I opened FireFox while streaming (I close FF after QT begins streaming) - Quicktime ended the stream at that point and wouldn't pick it back up. I thought it was just a case of "don't do *that* again".

When I attempted to view the same stream later that day I was met with the error -19160 message. Fiddled around with settings, booted soft & hard but nothing eliminated the error UNTIL

I dragged the WMV player icon from the Applications folder to the Trash bin - soft booted, then chose "Put Back" from the Trash menu.

Everything now works splendidly.

FauxExample's advice is the one that worked for me - Thank you. Such a simple fix. Trash, boot and put back. Now the live stream opens in both Safari and FireFox.
