Bluetooth Preferences says it's off, but it's actually not.
Fail.
Any Ideas? My mouse and keyboard are working, I just can't see their info in the status bar because it thinks that the Bluetooth is off. 😝

Hello:
That is very odd....I have never seen anything like that before (no help to you). It is also odd that "discoverable" is greyed out.
Try resetting the SMC and see if that helps.
Barry
P.S. What does the icon in the menu bar look like?
Well, just got this iMac. I know how to reset SMC on my macbook, but not on this one. Menubar icon looks like it's working correctly, except, when it's not connected, it is off. But i've never seen it on, without the "connected dots".
I have the same issue. I just recently got a new Macbook Pro with Lion on it and it wont let me check my discoverable box and keeps saying that my device is actually turned off and it wont find any of the bluetooth network names. I tried resetting my SMC and it didnt fix the issue
Resetting SMC instructions are here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
The SMC reset is not a cure all, but it frequently helps similar problems.
I should have suggested in my original post 😟 that I would also trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.

Hi!
I had the same problem.
I deleted/trashed the com.apple.bluetooth.XXX files in "Macintosh HD/library/preferences" (there were two or three)
Then I shutdown and reset the prams, following:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
That helped!

I am having the same problem.
Bluetooth says its off but it is on (my trackpad works just fine).
I can pair my iphone but then it won't work with Dialectic, which it did just a few days ago.
I have deleted plists, reset PRAM/VRAM/SMC...everything mentioned here.
Anyone got anything?
I swear I am having more weird problems since Lion.
Ok I found the problem right after I posted this:
Why did this folder appear?
I did not create it.
Everything worked until two days ago.
This is very weird.
What is com.apple.bluetooth.plist folder? We have 5 of them in our library and 1 folder com.apple.bluetooth.plist.lockfile. Which ones should we erase as we have the same problem with bluetooth saying it is Off?
Please, help us out.
Bluetooth Preferences says it's off, but it's actually not.
