how do I reinstall garageband?

I am having problems with garageband. I get errors when trying tp play back the simplest track. I want to reinstall the program. Do I have to remove the program first? and if so, how do I do it?

GarageBand (Mac) '11, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You should be able to install it from one of your Mac OS install disks, the one that says Applications.

If you downloaded it from the App Store, than you should be able to reinstall it once you delete the app. Just drag it from your Apps folder to the trashcan.

This should remove the app, though it will not delete loops, preferences and other configuration files. I'd try reinstalling it like this first, and if it doesen't work than I would reinstall after deleting everything that has to do with garageband inside

yourname/Library/Application Support/ (a folder named garageband)

and

yourname/Library/Preferences/ (like 3 files named com.apple.garageband.something)

Good luck!

To re-install an installed (via the Mac OS X Installer) app, you may need to look in /Library/Receipts on your boot disk (and any external disks you may have attached) and remove the package receipts that the installer has created.

Unfortunately, I don't have GarageBand '11, so I can't say what the package names are, but the names should be obvious.

Then, re-run the installer (or re-download the product from the App Store) to overwrite the installed app.
