mac mini 2011 server loud fan noise

Good Day

I purchased one of the new mac mini's 2011 with core i7 and 8GB of ram (which I installed myself).

My problem is that the fan noise is quiet loud for my taste. It runss at around 2300 rpm even if nothing is running. I had last years model before and it seemes alot more quiet while not doing anything.

So is that fan speed normal? Or is something not right? anyone else has a similar problem?

Thank you for any advice

Same here. fan runs at 2300 rpm. No apps running.

I was actually disappointed since the fan speed of my other mini (no server) intel core 2 Duo 2,53 GHz runs only at 1500 rpm.

Still thinking about sending this server back.

But since this is my first server, i assume this is normal with 2 drive's at 7200 rpm (I have 2 x 750 GB drive's).

Would like to see this confirmed.

What bothers me even more is the sleep issue.

Out of the box, mine refuses to sleep spontaniously.

What about your's?

Thank you for your answer, So i probably have to live with it 🙂

Its not really loud, to get me right, but just a tad too much if its sitting right next to me.

For the sleeping issue I can't really comment. What do you mean? As I use it as a server, mine should be running all the time and not go to sleep.

What would you like it to do? go to sleep after a certain period of time? You can change that in the energy settings:

System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer Sleep.

Here mine is set to never, but depending on your needs you can tell him to go so sleep after a certain amount of time.

Hope that helps!

it's just a tad to much for me too when it's on my deskop. Especially compared to my earlier Mac mini. You dont' hear that at all.

When not in use (i don't use it as a server) it should go to sleep like my three other Mac's which it doesn't.

Even not right out of the box with energy set to sleep. Then i don't hear it at all (even under my desktop).

So if a Mac mini server is not supposed to sleep, and for that reason Apple made it impossible to sleep, Apple should mension it.

But no, Energy saver settings can be adjusted like on every Mac, but it doesn't make any diffirence.
