HP Laserjet M1217nfw Airprint and iPad2

I bought the HP Laserjet M1217 printer to get a print capability for my iPad2. I got the printer working fine on my wireless network and can print fine wirelessly from my macbook pro. But both my iPad2 and iPhone 3GS do not see the printer.

ANy guidance and/or suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks in advance

Update

My macbook pro could see the printer because the ethernet cable between the hub and the printer was still attached. When I removed this I could no longer print from the macbook pro either. In my setup of the wifi (using airport express) I do have a pw that needs to be entered in order to access the wifi network. I have not seen how the HP printer can utiise this pw and so may be blocked from joining the network.

Just an update

I did the firmware update still no luck.

I can not figure out how to tell the printer what the SSID address it should be looking for . I can not ping the printers IP address since it is not on the network and the HP software does not seem to let me direct the printer to my SSID

It can not really be this hard - can it??? I am using an airport express as my wireless router.

For what it is worth I solved this by connecting an ethernet cable from the printer to the hub and then the ipad2 could find the printer. In this setup I was using an Airport Express and for whatever set of reasons my iphone could not find the wifi network as setup by the AE even though my macbook pro could. I suspect the core problem here is the Airport Express but for now I have a work around that solved the problem.

Yes, you have to upgrade the firmware for the printer because the upgrade enables the "Air Print" feature of the printer. Also, your devices have to be be Airplay capable as well. IOS 5.0 added Airplay capability. Once you have the printer and devices Airplay capable you have to use WPS on your router. Access your router configuration and look through all of the wireless options for WPS. Enable the WPS and then follow any instructions you may have for making the everything work. It took me almost 12 hours to figure this out but I was succesful
