USB Memory Card Reader Not Working With Lion

After updating to Lion back in July, my USB 2.0 memory card reader is no longer functional. Pre-Lion I had no problems whatsoever slipping an SD card into the reader and uploading pictures in iPhoto. Post-Lion it's no dice! I've tried using different USB ports and various connectors, all to no avail. Not only is the reader not being recognized, but when I try to connect my camera directly to my iMac to try to upload the photos, that won't work either...this method, of course, was effective when I was running Snow Leopard. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, has anyone discovered a way to fix this? I have a new DSLR that I spent a pretty penny on and now I can't get the pictures onto my Mac. Argh!

Right hand side of THIS page, up near the top, you will see the headings. The second section should read More Like This. And with a green tick have been marked as solved.

So the way to get it working is to buy a new reader? That kinda *****.

So you found 1 post where someone needed to do that? Where all the symptoms exactly the same as yours? If so how can you be sure? I said to read those posts and get a bit of an idea yourself. If you can't be bothered searching the forums, then make an appointment at your nearest Apple Store Genius Bar, and let them look at it.

I've read about as many posts as i can handle! so yeah, might have to head to the Genius bar 😟

It's a bummer cause I'm having to use a super crappy pc laptop to do the job.

Do you have, or can you get your hands on an external USB card reader to rule out the actual card being the problem as Barney suggested?

May save you a trip if you try that first. Nothing to loose.

Good Luck

After making my original post back in September and scouring more message boards for people experiencing the same issue (and not really finding any), I did some more research and came up with a solution that works for me: I discovered a wifi-enabled memory card for my camera that transers the photos wirelessy. No need for USB card readers that may or may not work anymore. I still don't know why both my camera and my card reader are no longer detected after installing Lion, but after using the wifi memory card, I'm sold! All I have to do is turn my camera on near my computer and the pictures download into iPhoto (there are some preference settings you have to tweak, but it works really well). The brand I have is called Eye-Fi and I bought a 4GB card at Target (I swear I'm not shilling for them!!). I'm sure there are other brands out there, but this is the only one I came across locally. I hope this helps!
