how do i add my iphone to the cloud?

I'm trying to add my iphone 3 to the apple's cloud so that when i purchase songs it syncs to my device and mac without the cord. I go to my account information in itunes and i show 3 devices already synced (ipad, mac and pc). I would like to add my iphone 3 to that list. How do I go about doing that?
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Store.
Anything turned on for Automatic Downloads with the iTunes account your iPhone is signed in with?
I did what you said, I went to settings>store and made sure it was my apple id. I entered my password and it says itunes in the cloud beta, Enabling Automatic Downloads or downloading a previous purchase will associate this device with your apple id for use with itues in the cloud beta. I went to the itunes store and purchased a song and after it was downloaded to my computer (pc windows 7) I check my iphone and the song was not there, am I doing something wrong?
What if anything is available below Automatic Downloads at Settings > Store?
It should be Music, Apps, and Books.
If this is not available at Settings > Store, which iOS version is your iPhone running?

Bummer!! Ya I checked a co-workers iphone 3gs and if you go to settings>store then you see the option for automatic downloads for music and apps. Oh well guess I'm left out.
Important to note that anything downloaded from the cloud including tunes incurs massive data charges if you are away from wifi.
