I have problem rating appStore apps in iTunes and on iOS devices.
I always get error "To rate this item, you must own it." when I want to rate any application.
This smells like a huge bug ?

I have the same issue, even in iTunes.
I just found out. In order to rate application you have to own (download) it first. It's kind a logic rule...
It was downloaded. It even says "Installed". I've even deleted and re-downloaded, and get "To rate this item, you must own it."
This is really strange...
I have the same problem. It seems to be appeared a week ago. Certainly I bought apps first and was asked to rate them but it is impossible because of this error.
By the way mostly I liked apps I owned. Give me the chance to rate them! I promise to be objective)))
I think you cant rate it if you downloaded it for free (promotion code thing).
I'm having the same problem on both free and paid for apps on my iPhone and now also on the Mac.... I wonder if it's an Apple setting?
Only started happening since I installed ios5 on my iphone.
I have the same issue. I have purchased the item but unable to rate it. In fact i cannot rate anything i have purchased.
This is a bug that APPLE need to look into.
Yep - I have the same problem. I purchased an app and installed it on my iPhone and now I can't rate it, either on my phone or on iTunes on my computer. I repeatedly get "To rate this item, you must own it." I wonder what else you have to do to "own" it? Buy the company that developed it perhaps? 🙂
I'm having the same problems. I also get this message but I have bought the apps (no promo code)
Same issue. It also prevents buying paid add ons from apps, saying you must own app to buy item.
I am now having the same problem. "To rate this item you must own it" but I already own the app. So how do I rate it?
Is Apple fixing this issue?
It is happening to me both in the App store and in iTunes.
Hi all,
Am afraid I have the same issue too... :( It happens to both free & purchased apps (FYI in the store itself on the tab where you expect to see all your purchased apps, it's all empty). On the app page itself though it does show that I have it installed and they do synch to my PC.
Did anybody find the fix to this yet?

I logged an issue with Apple support last December. Their response "In order to rate an item, you have to own it".
I replied again asking if they actually read my request. No response to this date.
I guess since Steve Jobs passed away, Apple employees have gotten lazy.
