iMac 27inch Display - Dark on left side :(

I own a brand new 2011 27inch iMac. It's been working great over the last two months. However, yesterday the monitor seemed to dim and now the left side has darkened noticably. It's exactly like this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDn4G_TTICY

Any ideas before I call the Apple Help Desk?

Thanks,

D.

If you can't take it in to a store or service provider (make an appm't), it would be good to be ready to send them that link while you're on the phone. But yes definitely something looks wrong and you are under warranty.

This is an known problem for this iMac model (Mid 2011). Its not the inverterboard/backlight, its the display itself... im pretty sure that it happens because there is the power supply behind the left side of the display, and it is getting to hot and damages the display... I have the same iMac but havent had this issue (yet) so i will have to buy the Apple Protection Plan when i still have Warranty cuz it will very probably happen!

Update: And yes it is an Hardware problem which cant be resolved through Software Update.

I purchased my 27" iMac dec 2011 and this week it has started dimming on the left side, really noticed it when I changed background to white. It is currently at an area Apple reseller getting fixed. It will be interesting to find out what the issue is. They said they may have it for at least a week. Sounds like this is a common issue, will definatley be getting Apple care when my current warranty runs out, if not before.

I've got the same problem. I bought iMac 27 (mid 2010) one and a half years ago and the warranty already ended.

But.. It is the first case when to the monitor there is a similar! Why the company apple not to recognize obvious marriage of the displays and not to change them free of charge????

I don't know any monitor with which after a year of use there was the same problem... Asus/Samsung/LG etc, any of them.

I won't buy any more imac, instead I will buy separately the monitor and the PC, it will save up my nerves and money.
