Feb 10, 2013 3:14 AM in response to dale275by martinchivers,I have now contacted a BBC program (in UK) called "Watchdog", a consumer advice program. We will see, if they are interested in this! If they do take it up, I am confidant if a good outcome!
Meanwhile I struggle with this dark screen, that is effecting my whole operating experience of what I considered a premium product.
Incidentally, does anybody know, if the offending cable/plug, is available to simply buy as a "part", for self fitting?
When I dropped my panel forward, & wiggled the plug there was NO discernable (lightness/darkness) change.

Feb 10, 2013 3:29 AM in response to martinchiversby nonnyscott,I took my work 2011 iMac 27" to the Apple Store in Braehead in Glasgow (it is out of warranty) I hit them with the 2 year Europian warranty on electrical products they did not want to know. I also explaind what our company leagal advisor suggested about it not being fit for pourpous I got the stock answer that Apple has now knowlage of this problem.
As it is for work and needed to be fixed it cost £336 for the screen and £24 labour plus VAT.
They told me that if Apple do recognise the problem and do a recall then I will be entitled to my money back other than that I can take it leagal to recover the cost we might win but it would cost £1000s to find out.
I like everyone else have lost all confidence in Apple, bring back "Steve Job's" he would neaver have let this happen.

Feb 10, 2013 3:36 AM in response to dale275by martinchivers,Norman....thanks for that. I just cannot understand their resistance! All they need to do, is supply a load of leads & panels to the apple shops & repair agents, & get them to fit them. In the overall scheme of things, this would not cost a fortune, but would greatly increase customer satisfaction. I will be reverting back to a PC, when I have finished paying for the mac! I cannot evan sell it, with this fault, so it is worthless.

Feb 13, 2013 11:38 AM in response to dale275by JanineM.,As a follow up 12 days later, after physically carrying in my 27" iMac 13 months post purchase to Apple store in White Plains (after getting the impression when I drove there the day before that they might be flexible) and finding out yes it was the LCD and no they wouldn't give me a break—I would have to pay $535 to fix it.
I carried it out, dissapointed in the lack of brand loyalty (been buying multiple machines for 22 years for biz and pleasure) and took it to a local authorized repair shop. The story goes on with a NEW problem with my backup Mac once the big one was getting fixed (Mountain Lion OS caused issues with the Adobe software and the whole thing resulted in 9 hours of my time backing up, reintializing and reinstalling).
Bottom line, one empathetic customer relations person that tech support connected me to cared about a loyal customer over 2 decades being so unhappy and disillusioned and called the repair shop and picked up the tab for a replacement LCD.
Moral of the story, I spoke to 4 people at Apple before this fellow that made me angry and resentful about being an "Apple advocate" but this guy's attention and follow up undid their damage and made me pro Apple again.

Mar 20, 2013 12:49 PM in response to dale275by martinchivers,Hi. "Joeblogg". Very sorry to hear that. There have been millions (maybe slight exaggeration) of the computers with this problem! It's all bollocks. I spoke to 3 people at AppleCare. Getting higher up the tree. But eventually, but not unexpectedly, no offer of help was forthcoming. I have not heard from watchdog. Sorry about that! Is there any way that everybody with this fault can join together as a group to exert more pressure?

Mar 20, 2013 2:17 PM in response to dale275by martinchivers,Great. Let me know what they say. Also, I think it worthwhile to try to compile a list of computers (customers) with this precise affliction. Is it better to concentrate on just the uk? Or worldwide, do you think?
-
Mar 20, 2013 2:27 PM in response to dale275by joeblogg22,yes i think this is a good idea i think we need to shame them into doing something about this, world wide world be good if we get a list going where you leave the follow details
name
imac model
fault description
location
date of purchase
and i think it would help if everyone got in touch with watchdaog too they might be more interest if the reports start flowing in, trouble is where do we compile this list

Mar 20, 2013 2:51 PM in response to dale275by martinchivers,Agree, more reports to watchdog, would help a lot. Obviously only uk residents, I think. Do you want people to email you? Or me? Or put their details here? Is it ok to post an email address onto this forum?
