max temp hd 6970m

Hi

I've been scaning the net to find info on heat specification for the HD 6970M card in my new iMac.

I sometimes get temp over 90 degrees celsius on the GPU Diode.

I'm looking for an official wording (link) on this and not anyones feelings. This is because when I surfed the web some say 50 is max while others say max 100.

So more of a official specification on what the cards operation limits are temp-wise would be nice.

Thank you.

For my own note.

Found this on a german testsite (babelfish translate):

"A look into the case revealed no big surprises inside. Although a maximum of 87 ° C for the processor and a maximum of 94 ° C for the graphics card quite a lot, but these temperatures are created in the impractical full load test with the tools and PrimeFurmark. In normal gaming operation is probably not achieve all the components of such high values."

I read this that 94 ° C is pretty high but still within operational limits though not recommended for extended periods.

I mailed AMD and this is what they replied:

"Apple Support will be able to confirm the specifications of their version of the HD6970M chipset used in your iMac.

Generally the GPU can get to 100C under load. The fans should speed up on the laptop keeping the chipset in the low 90's or high 80's under load. At idle the temperature range can be from 30C to 70C."

So unless something's different with the Apple modified 6970M then I'm pretty ok with the heat I get.

Just to be on the safe side I gonna put a USB fan behind my iMac to cool it down a couple of degrees.

Btw, gonna mail Apple and ask them too. Might be back to update...or not. :-D

Hello Snorlars,

If it gives you a good feeling to reduce the temperature of your GPU, tray this:

iStatpro. A widget to see everything about temperture and rotations of your fans. http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html

smcFanControl. A good app, what make it easily to manage the fan-speed http://www.eidac.de/ I use these tools when I'm using my flightsimulator on the iMAC.
