how can one edit a video clipl in iPhoto '11

Hi, i can use the edit in iphoto to save a piece of a movie clip, but suppose i want to delete the middle of a clip. I can't seem to find a simple way to doe this. Do i have to cut the beginning and the end of the movie separately, save each and then combine them in Quicktime? this seems very cumbersome.

Thanks..

I'm running Lion on a new iMac.

I have to agree with Wayne. The apparent ability of iPhoto to edit movies (Edit in iPhoto and Edit in External Editor shown in dropdown menu) and the disappointing message received when trying either option, "The selected items can’t be edited in iPhoto. To shorten a video, double-click it and choose Trim from the Action (gear) menu," seem to contradict each other. And why on earth should that message be displayed when one chooses "Edit in External Editor"? That must certainly be an interface error.
