USB Joystick for Mac

I was interested in playing some old Arcade games using the Emulator MacMAME. Will a USB Joystick work with MacMAME or other game software. Are there Mac and PC versions of JOysticks or would any USB Joystick work.
I would also be interested in a recommendation of a simple joystick.

IMac G5, Mac OS X (10.3.5)

I like the Gravis line. I have a stick from them which I have used with MacMAME with no issues.

OS X provides native support for Gravis® game devices.

Thank you for your response Beavis. I posted the question also on the MacMAME forum and got some good information there also. I am thinking that I will go with the Logitech Attack 3 joystick but I will checkout the Gravis line as well.
