Is there a way to get 'mono' in iTunes?

Ok, this is a bit esoteric. I've been a fan of pop music since I was a kid in the 60s. Back then we listened to it on AM radio in glorious mono. I've recreated an AM Radio ambience using iTunes EQ, but I wondered, is there any way to force mono playback? I've looked in iTunes and SysPrefs (Sound) but I don't see anything.

It's not a huge big deal - if I'm more than 3 or 4 feet from the Mac, it might as well be mono anyway. But I just wondered...

You can convert songs to Mono. First, go to iTunes > Preferences > General > Import Settings. Under the encoder menu is another drop-down menu for Settings. Choose "Custom" and you'll be able to select a choice for Mono. Once that is set, use the iTunes > Advanced menu to create a mono version. The original stereo version will remain in your library unless you choose to delete it.
