Welcome back to the Apple Community.
I've not actually tested setting up the Apple TV in this way, but have you entered an ID and password into iTunes (advanced menu) and used the same information on the Apple TV.
Hi!
Thanks for your thoughts.
iTunes is fully set up with a live Apple ID and password and works well on the Store, and on Home Sharing across a network of home computers. However, Apple TV repeatedly tells me that the ID is not found or the password is incorrect when I attempt to turn on Home Sharing or to log into the Store.
My first assumption was that Apple TV could not see the Internet, but everything about the network configuration looks OK - I've tried both a wireless (via an Express) and an Ethernet network, and the shared Internet connection from the MacBook Pro is working well on other computers connected to the network.
Not really sure here without trying/seeing for myself. A couple of further thoughts; are you using the same MB port for both the internet connection and the network, your router isn't using port forwarding is it.
Hi!
Again, thenks for your thoughts.
It was a network problem, made difficult to investigate by lousy Internet speeds (don't laugh - I'm in Nairobi, Kenya) but finally resolved by switching to an Airport Extreme and setting everything up very carefully, after which the Apple TV sprang to life, happily switched on Sharing and is now working well.
All the best
Chris
