Why cant I add my apps to my iphone yet I can add my boyfriends from his laptop?

I got an iphone a week ago, and i set up my acount of my boyfriends computer. The music will sync off of my laptop but I cant add my apps to my phone. On my boyfriends laptop I can add his apps but not his music. Why cant I add my apps? Please help!
