the screen is just colored lines

Hi everyone, first post here, hope I can find a solution or at least someone who has experienced the same problem. My one year old iPad suddenly stopped working, actually it works perfectly apart from the screen that only shows coloured vertical lines that sort of deform towards the top (held in landscape position). I haven't dropped it or anything else, it just started doing this out of nothing, any ideas?

Thank you,

Cosma

Have you tried a reset to see if that fixes it ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If that doesn't work then you could try restoring it via your computer's iTunes, and if that fails resetting back to factory defaults. If none of that works then you many need to contact Apple.

I was wondering if it happened to anyone already because if I know it's a hardware issue I can avoid paying the 35€ to access the Genius Bar and buy a new one, I already talked to someone at Apple and a technical repair would be 410€ making it just not worth it!

I understand how you feel. You can try doing a search on the forum in the upper right part of the screen when you are on this site. There is a blue Search button next to the text field in which you can enter keywords like iPad has colored Lines across screen - or something like that.

It can take a few tries to hit on the correct combination of keywords. Try a Google search as well.

this SAME thing happened to me today. like you, this wasn't by prompted anything i did. it did, however, prompt me to have a near breakdown. i'd have an ipad 2 if i could afford it...now my most valuable (ie work wise) possession is shot 😟 please let me know how your situation progresses...i will too. my ipad is also exactly as old as yours. odd.

Colleague at work had the same issue with his ipad 2 so I tried a solution I read on another forum...

Take ipad out of case.

Tap bottom right hand corner on the back.

That's it!

I gave it a more than gentle tap but less than a whack on the bone of my thumb and it did the trick. I'd read to tap in on a table but as it wasn't my ipad, did want to take the risk.

It sounds like the connector cable to the screen was loose and I'm sure that the 'tap' isn't a permanent solution, best get it opened and have the cable fitted more securely.

Hope this helps anyone else experiencing the problem still.

Hi Scoobi,

I have the same issue in my iPad 2 and tapping at multiple places gets everything in place.

Can there be a permanent solution? Apple support franchisees in India would convince me that this as Retina display issue but which is not true I guess because it just works fine after tapping in right place.

Do you know anyone in Bangalore to can just tighten the right place?

Pavan

Hey Pavan,

I'm UK based so have no knowledge of operations in India.

As I said in my previous post, tapping the iPad is only a temporary solution and getting it opened and the lead fitted more securely would be a more permanent fix.

Please note though that if tapping the iPad is not a viable solution, getting it seen by apple or and apple specialist would be a wiser course of action.
