The email server didn’t recognize your username/password combination.?

Trying to send iPhoto. My accounts are set correctly, but I receive the above message.

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Making sure your email account settings are correct within iPhoto11 will cure this problem IF you have an email account such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc. But if you have your own personal domain hosted by a company like 1and1, there seems to be no way around this bug - emailing from within iPhoto using an email account such as jo.bloggs@mydomainname.com will not work.

The only work around I have found is to set the settings in iphoto to send emails using "Mail" rather than "iPhoto"

Really annoying as this means you cannot use the nice templates within iPhoto for mailing....

Apple acknoweldged to me that this is a known bug, but they have not said if it will ever be fixed in iPhoto11. We may have to wait for iPhoto13?

I cannot confirm your report. I used iPhoto to send email from my private hosting account and it worked fine.

While Keychain is known to be glitchy, I don't believe there's a wholesale sweeping bug as you claim.

Thanks for your reply Adam. That is really interesting to hear. And I so wish you could help me sort out my keychain, if indeed that is the problem.

The reason the Apple Support team (second level tech support, after 2 weeks of investigation) concluded it is a bug is that, after failing to solve the problem on my iMac, we tested out setting up my email account in iPhoto on a brand new Mini Mac straight out of the box - so no chance of corrupting keychains etc. It worked fine with my gmail account, but not with my @mydomain.co.uk account. They then gave up saying "sorry - but it is a bug"

If you can point me to the steps you think I could take to rectify this, I would be forever grateful.

Thans again for taking the time to respond and help

By Jove Adam!

You have helped me fix it!!

I followed your instructions and did the "Verify" - it found nothing woring and did not make a difference :-(

BUT, I then decided to try deleting all the keychain entries that had anything to do with iPhoto and with Mail.

I then set up the iPhoto Account preferences again with the correct SMTP information BEFORE I went into Mail to reset my mail account info there. And it works! Emailing through iPhoto works!

From this is deduce that something is going wrong if you set up your @mydomain email accounts in Mail before setting them up in iPhoto. If you do it the other way round, it seems to work....

Many many thanks!
