Macbook Pro running Lion won't recognize CD

I seem to have similar problems with a 2009 Macbook Pro running 10.7.1. Apparently since upgrading to Lion it will not read commercial music CDs. They do not show up in Finder and are automatically ejected after about 45 seconds. DVD's play fine.

Seems like another Lion bug.

This Problem is an ongoing problem since i installed lion i have the same issue. are they ever going to fix this issue

Same problem here.. can't read many of my DVD/CDs .. before Lion X upgrade were all fine !!

I have the same problem. My cousin sent me a DVD of photos. My Macbook running Lion thinks it's an 'unnamed' DVD and doesn't see any photos on it. My mum's Macbook, running Snow Leopard, sees it find, knows it's called 'holidays' and shows all the photos.

Anybody got any thoughts? This is really annoying as I wanted to do a family slideshow.

I was almost going to change my optical drive.

I have 2009 Macbook Pro, since I installed Lion my Hybrid CD (SACE/CD) won't read

many of my CD and DVD won't read.

They need to fix this problem next updates.

I do buy music from iTunes but I still buy many CD's and would like to rip from my CD's

Everyone needs to bombard Apple support sites until they fix it... This situation is just plain stupid and it's incredibly unprofessional of Apple to just ignore it.

I'm just annoyed that I cannot add new CDs to my iTunes library, but I'm sure there are others who really need their computers to work properly!

I've made a telephone appointment with Apple... If that doesn't work, I'm off to the Apple Store... but I won't be paying them $$$$ for a problem that they have clearly created!

Exactly the same problem here. My older photo libraries are backed up on CDs, and I can't access any of them ("You inserted a blank CD" dialog appears... these CDs are most certainly not blank). This happens only on my MacBook Pro 2009 running Lion. I can read CDs just fine on my 2010 Mac Mini. Why would a Lion upgrade render my CD drive useless??

Similar problem here. I've got a brand new 27" iMac runing Lion. It won't mount or play commercial DVDs. I can force it to mount using Disk Utility, but the DVD player still tells me, "supported disc not available."

The same DVDs mount and play fine on my older iMac running Snow Leopard.

I tried changing the preferences in the CDs & DVDs sytem preferences, but it doesn't change anything. DVDs won't play in Lion.

OK -- I did some more experimenting. If I make a fresh user account, then switch to it and insert the DVD, the Mac asks me to set my DVD region, after which it mounts and plays the DVD. After doing so, I can switch back to my main account, eject the disk, and reinsert it. Now it mounts and plays there too.

Since this is a new iMac and I transfered my previous account settings and software to this one, my main account probably incorrectly had a preference set that told it the DVD region was already determined for this new DVD player. However, since that wasn't true, the DRM on the commercial DVD was preventing it from playing.

same problem as many other users :

since I moved to Lion, music CDs , DVDs and RW disks not recognized and ejected 10 sec after being introduced .

I tried without success some of the recipes seen hereabove (like fiddling with the preferences when a disk is inserted )

The only disk recognized is the original Apple disk for the installation of Leopard

Try to repair permisions from the startaup disk.

It takes 5 min and seems to work

I am now able to at least read the music CD's (I have not yet tried the other types of disk )

Just upgraded to Lion and have the same issue, CD's and DVD's wont boot or eject...

Exactly just Exactly the same thing is happening with me.I was going to change mine too.Any kind of cd/dvd is not working in my case.everything eject after few second when i insert somethings.So,did you fix your problem??

Managed to solve it, but ended up having to do a complete hard drive wipe and re install.

No problems since, machine runs much faster too.
