I need to export to mp4 or mpeg (or another format) because the .mov file from QT does not work in many players of my friends.

But how to do that in FCPX? I can't find any option but QT...

(I imported it for this occasion in FCE4 and from there in mp4 but that 's ridicculess in guess)

Thanks!

You need to use Compressor to do this.

Actually, you can export mp4 without compressor.

Go to Share -> Apple Devices and select "Mac & PC." You can select where you want the file to end up, and the end result will be a file with the .mp4 extension and should be playable on all modern computers.

That will be an H.264 MPEG-4 and not MPEG-4 base, which many computers run by recalcitrant IT departments still demand.

Possibly, but he's talking about sharing with friends. I think h.264 is pretty commonly supported these days.

I'm guessing his original file was prores422 (if he exported to quicktime and used project settings)....

I find H.264 files to be about the most universal for both Mac and PC playback.

thanks to all fot the good ideas!

I think apple good better inform us about this because I was not the only one who did not know this. and there is more confusion with this program.

On the other hand, the more i work with, the more i appreciate it! (as an expirienced amateur) but a numbre of missing options and bugs must soon be repaired.

Doesn't the Mac/PC export send out QuickTime .m4v or has that changed?

No, it uses the .mp4 extension. If you export for the other apple devices (ipod, ipad, appletv) it will use .m4v.
