Wifi Problems with MiFi - Server OS

I'm trying to connect my Mac Pro to my new Three MiFi modem but I'm having problems. I'm on Snow Leopard SERVER 10.6.4. The MiFi modem connects fine to my iphone and laptop with no problems but I cannot get the internet with the Mac Pro. It lets me connect to it but won't give me internet.

It says either - "AirPort has the self-assigned IP address (and gives an IP address) and will not be able to connect to the internet" or "AirPort does not have not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet"

In the network window it the AirPort tab just flicks between these two problems.

What can I do?

This is the first time I have tried to connect it to the internet

Thanks in advance

Hi

AirPort always sits under the Ethernet tabs. When it says "AirPort has the self-assigned IP address (and gives an IP address) and will not be able to connect to the internet" airport jumps to the top of the list but just for a second then drops back down with "AirPort does not have not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet" again.

I've ran diagnostics and assist me... many times and still cannot get connected. It fails on the "network settings" section.

I don't understand though why it keeps saying AirPort does not have an IP address???? Is the Server OS to do with it?

Thanks again

AirPort always sits under the Ethernet tabs.

Click on the little gear in Network pane and choose "Set Service Order". Drag Airport to the top of the list.

If you have an Ethernet cable connected, remove it.

You are stuck with a "self assigned" or no IP Address when a Router will not give you an IP Address using DHCP.

This can be caused by a lot of different problems.

Getting an IP Address from an Ethernet cable first.

Mis-configured Router not dispensing IP Addresses.

Bad cables/Bad reception over Wireless.

mistakenly activating unused features on your Mac such as PPPoE or IPv6
