My iPhone is not showing the wifi icon

My iPhone is not showing the wifi symbol at the top of the screen, but the 3G symbol. Settings shows that there is a connection to my wifi router. In fact, my iPad is showing a wifi connection. My iPhone is less than a meter from my router. Help please.

Still happening on 9.3.2, iPhone 5s. Very disappointed that Apple cannot fix a bug which is 5 years old apparently 😟

For me turning WiFi on/off didn't help, turning 3G on/off didn't help, but turning the phone on/off did help. For a while. Then the problem came back again 😠
