When i attached my brand new portable hard drive it says the following
"NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1 at /Volumes/Vuakalevu because the following problem occurred:
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libfuse.2.dylib
Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g
Reason: image not found"
can anyone help?

Uninstall NTFS-3G, try again.
I know this may sound stupid, but how do i uninstall it, i can not find the file for it?

I uninstalled it, re-installed it and it still comes up. When i Disable NTSF-3G the volume shows, however files can not be dropped into the hard drive. So now i am stuck, no idea on what to do from here!
I never use 3rd party file system additions so all I can tell you is to format the drive for a Mac, exFat or MSDOS, in my experience most of the NTFS drivers for Mac fail, usually when you need them not to, they also screw with bootup.
If ls -als /opt/local/lib/libfuse.2*
shows the file, try this:
sudo su -
cd /usr/local/lib
ln -s /opt/local/lib/libfuse.2.dylib
