Any 3rd Party Application(s) to export to tape?

Heya guys. Hope production has been treating you all well. I'm kind of in a jam here where for some reason both my sony dv decks have stopped working via firewire. I currently need a third party application(if one exists) that can export a ProRes file to DV Tape. I'm about to go through the pain of reinstalling FCS 7, but I've asked a friend to come by with his cam for me to export a program to tape. I reinstalled my OS as a last ditch effort to see if that was the problem, sadly, it wasn't. So I can only conclude that my decks are... swabed. 😝

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 2xQuad-Core 3GH, Memory 4 GB, ATI Radeon X1900

You have converted the ProRes file to DV before trying the Print to Tape?

That's a waste of time, there's nothing wrong with FCP in this case. You can only go to DV tape if your Timeline is DV to begin with.

I know that's how em apps work. Just wanted to know if anyone made anything that could help me avoid that.

That's strange then Nick. Almost all my timelines are in a different codec setting. I just figured FCP just plays em back through DV signal which is why all these years I've been able to export my ProRes timeline to mini DV tapes. Premier Pro did it as well...H.264 is another story. Been trying to switch over to FCPX lately so I don't wanna have to reinstall FCP 7 if I don't have to... or Premier for that matter. I don't mind converting the clips to DV but the question still remains, do you guys have any apps to export to tape?

The only way to get ProRes to DV tape WITHOUT converting it to DV and outputting via firewire is to use a capture card. AJA Kona, Matrox MXO2, Decklink. They all have capture/output apps as well.

The only way to send a signal down firewire to a DV deck and have it record DV is to have the source be DV. ProRes does not go down firewire.

Gotcha shane. I don't mind converting to DV but I need an app to output the file via firewire. I have SimpleVideoOut X... REALLY OLD APP lol. Do you guys have anything like that?

How will any app that allows output to tape via firewire going to work if both decks have stopped working via firewire? Firewire is not an option, right? Because the decks firewire isn't working?

Yeah Shane. It's a bummer, but I've got an industry peer coming by with his camera. Hopefully that'll work. I'm in essence looking for an alternative instead of reinstalling FCP 7 or Premier Pro... 😐

Ahhh.

I don't know of anything. SimpleVideoOut was a great option, but has been discontinued for about 6 years. Shame. But, it was a developer tool. Need more like that.

Simple Video Out is still available. You need to have xCode installed to build it though:
