iTunes window is too big after disconnecting external display

Hey,

I use an external monitor with my MBP (13", C2D, 2010) at work. Coming home I just use the MBP display. Now, using only the internal LCD my iTunes window is too large so I cannot access the lower part of the window. Unfortuneatly the window does not adjust automatically or by using the green resize button in the top bar, neither is there any change after restarting iTunes or the computer. This way iTunes is not really usable, unless I resize the iTunes window everytime before disconnecting the external monitor ... I cannot remember having this problem before. Does anyone know how to solve this? Do I need to go back to the former iTunes version that was not made for Lion with its new way of resizing windows?

Thanks and regards,

Eric

Try to hold down the option key while clicking the green button in iTunes. That should maximize the window to your screen size

I am happy, you knew the answer, I searched for similar subjects but did not find this information. I wonder whether this is an iTunes bug, since other programms (Safari, iCal, Mail, ...) resize automatically wehen disconnecting and even resize back as soon as you plug in the external display again. Also I assume former iTunes version also resized automatically, I cannot remember to have had this issue before.

Great to have this forum!

And if you want to have always easy access to Chris CA's exellent script use Automator instead of Script Editor and install it as a service: Then you can execute it any time from the iTunes Services menu.

Open Automator and create a new Sevice Workflow.

Set "Service receives" to "No Input" in "iTunes.app"

From the Actions-Panel select "Utilities" and drag a "Run Applescript"-Action into the workflow.

Paste Chris CA's script right between the "on run" and "return" lines.

Save the service. Automator will install it in your Library in the services folder.

Now you can execute it from within iTunes from the iTunes -> Services menu.

You could even assing a keyboard shortcut (services preferences) to the menue entry.

So next time your window ist to large the helper service will be right at hand.

leonieDF thanks that was amazingly helpful! I running on a Cinema 30" and like my iTunes window to fill the whole screen except not overlapping with the Dock, so through trial-and-error came up with the following dimensions:

tell application "Finder"

set {d1, d2, d3, d4} to (get bounds of window of desktop)

end tell

tell application "iTunes"

set margins to {d1, d2 + 22, d3, d4 - 93}

set bounds of window 1 to margins

end tell

Hey,

thanks for all the replies, interesting ways to get where you want to go. Personally, I prefer to have this working in the OS without using Terminal, Apple Script or other tools :-)

Seems like Apple fixed this issue with its latest release - the iTunes window automatically rezises to fit the screen size when disconnecting from an external display.

Cheers,

Eric
