My macbook keeps ejecting blank dvd/cd - trying to burn photos

I am trying desparately to burn photos onto a dvd/cd and have now tried two different ones. I put it in when it asks for blank one and it spits it out - doesn't accept it. Do I have to use special mac ones or should it take anything?? Please help - driving me mad! Emily
