why are csv files opening as txt files since upgrading to Lion

For over a year I have received csv files (via mobileme) from a colleague which i use in excel for mac.

Recently I have been unable to open them as a csv file because they keep turning into txt files during download.

The only thing I have done is upgrade to OSX Lion

Whats going on ?

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

CSV files are basically just text files with specific formatting so if the mapping to the appropriate application has been dropped, they'll default to opening in TextEdit or to no application. If the files are coming with .csv filename extensions, you should be able to redirect them to Excel by doing a Get Info on a representative file, going to the "Open With" section, selecting Excel, and clicking the "Change All" button.

Regards.
