how can i use my old iphone 2g as an mp3?

I would like to use my old iphone as mp3/hard drive etc?

At the mo itunes says wrong sim?

I now have iphone 4 so have mini sim?

You need a SIM, active or not, from the original carrier of the iPhone.

I tried it with an orange sim which i think it was originally and it still says "sim card inserted does not appear to be supported"?

In that case, the original SIM was not an Orance SIM. You're going to have to find a SIM from the carrier it is locked to or you're not going to be able to use it at all.
