Ipod touch 4th gen password reset?

My son has managed to lock himself out of his ipod touch 4th gen. Is there any way to fix this without losing the pictures?

Hi,

You will probably have to do a Restore... In which case the pictures cannot be saved...

You need to connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore the iPod via iTunes. If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter the passcoe, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:

iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

If the backup has the photos they will be restored to the iPod when you restore from backup.

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
  • Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

If you can move/copy the backup to the new computer you can restore from that backup. However, the backup does not include the aps themselves, music, synced phots and some other things. See the following for info about backups:

You need to place the iPOd n recovry mode. See:

iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

and then restore. It can be tricky to get it in recovery mode. You can try this program to get it in recovery mode.

Next would be to try DFU mode:
