safari keeps freezing when using yahoo mail.

Could be a cookies issue.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.

Click: Show Cookies. Delete all Yahoo cookies.

Now go back to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.

Restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Try Yahoo mail.

If you aren't aware, you can setup your Yahoo account using Mac Mail instead of dealing with web based mail from a browser.

It's not a cookies problem or anything like that. I've tried it all. It's a problem with the new Yahoo Mail and Safari 5 being incompattible. I've tried everything. I basically can read one email, then I have to quit Safari, open my mail and read another, then repeat that process for all 35 emails I get a day. It's SUPER annoying.

I'm thinking of going back to Mail Classic to see if that resolves the problem. I'll keep you posted.

Why not use Mac Mail instead of Yahoo's web based mail and having to access it via Safari and deal with incompatibility issues?

Open Mac Mail.

From the menu bar top of your screen click Mail / Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.

Click + (plus) under the Accounts panel on the left.

Type in your name, Yahoo email address and Yahoo password then click Create.

It's that easy.

To view incoming mail or start a new mail message just click the Mail icon in your Dock. If the Mail icon isn't in the Dock, go to your Applications folder, launch Mail. Then click and hold the Mail icon in the Dock, click Option / Keep In Dock.

I tried that when I got my mac and it wouldn't let me add a Yahoo account. I'll try it again though, maybe something has changed in the last few years and I can add it. Thanks for the suggestion, it's worth a shot!

I am having the same problem. I don't want to use the Mail application in my macbook pro. Yesterday it worked fine and today there Yahoo mail crashes in safari. Does anybody have a reason or a fix?

Yep, the exact same thing started today for me. Three or four tabs were open, and anytime I went to Yahoo mail it froze and I had to reload all the pages.

This new Yahoo mail has so many issues that I'm wondering if Yahoo wasn't bought out by Microsoft.

I've got emails that randomly will go from having been read days, weeks or even months ago to being a new, unread mail again. That, or emails that don't actually move to a folder or deleted when I click the button. Sometimes I have to hit the delete button four or five times before they will actually delete out. I'm just about done with Yahoo.

can anyone explain why yahoo would work fine with safari and then the very next second it causes it to freeze? i didn't add any programs. can anyone explain it to me?

Every time I open Yahoo mail the page freezes and if I click on it I get the spinning rainbow and cannot get my email. I tried the cleaning of the cache, eliminating of the cookies, and restarting the machine. Ultimately, the problem reappears! I can get my Yahoo mail with Firefox and with Google Chrome, but NOT safari! What gives???

I'm trying the Mail solution, but I have to say, I feel so trapped by Yahoo. Without getting a paid Yahoo account, I can't automatically forward to or have messages picked up by Mail or gmail, for example. I really want to switch, but I fear I'll have to check two accounts forever. Ideas? Solutions?

This is happening on all my Macs. We have a 15" MBPro, and 17" MBPro and and iMac. It's happening on all of them. The Macbooks all got formated and the OS reinstalled. The iMac is brand new. I thought I was having some sort of virus but now I don't know what to think. This all started when I upgraded my OS to 10.6.8.

I'm having the exact same problem as martinfromboynton beach. Tried opening yahoo on multiple Macs, so it's not my computer. Reinstalled Safari, that didn't work. Yahoo mail is only working in other search engines. Anyone have a solution that doesn't keep me from giving up my favorite search engine or my favorite email address? Pretty please?

So can we switch back to old mail style somehow?

Well, finding this discussion was comforting in only one way, I'm not the only one having this problem. I figure, like everyone else, that it is a Yahoo/Safari thing. Safari works well with my gmail account for work. But I've had a personal yahoo address since about '98. I like myyahoo page, its my homepage and has been since '98. I have mail setup to read my personal and work emails so I can see everything there, but I would prefer to just be able to use my homepage without all the freezing and force quitting via safari. For me it doesn't happen every time, but frequently. And I have to open my inbox repeatedly before it actually opens. Or try to open an email, and I get the message that it failed to open try again. And again. And again. What a pain.

Ready to dump yahoo and move everything to gmail after 14 years.
