Magic Mouse will not track

My mouse has stopped tracking, however scrolling and the right and left buttons still function.

Has any one encountered this and how was the problem resolved?

Hey people,

I came across this issue today when I was working.

The cursor suddenly started to jitter and gradually stopped tracking completely, but other functions such as gestures and scrolling were still working as normal.

I tried most of the tips described here and none of them worked at all.

Then I took the mouse to my college to test in one of their iMacs and, to my despair, it didn't work too.

Arriving home I decided to get a little less gentle with the thing and I pressed down with reasonable force on the bottom of the mouse, near the optical sensor (on the actual battery cover) and, to my surprise, it worked!

My guess is that the problem was a bad contact within the internal components and the sensor.

I just hope this issue doesn't happen again, since I have no idea on how to disassemble this thing to fix it completely.

I hope this quick solution helps you 😀

Hi

Same probem is here, suddenly pointer stopped to be active and no tracking at all. All buttons, gestures etc are performing well.

- paired / unpaired > no result

- replaced batteries > no result

- cleaned contacts inside mouse > no result

- cleaned laser > no result

Light is blinking only a few after mouse is connected, and completely stops to blink, while mouse buttons are working.

Tried to find solution on web, does not help much.

Any solution?

Thanks

Hi, same thing happened to me yesterday!

Bluetooth connection is ok, resetet the NVRAM, etc.

First the mouse pointer started jumping like crazy. I have disabled it and used a normal USB mouse, after 3 hours i've tried again my Magic Mouse and .. no pointer movement from him. I have unplugged the USB mouse, all the system resets possible, and nada ! the gestures work, the clicks work .. and no movement. I have also "tested" the laser diode with the cellphone camera, and the infra red laser beam was blinking, so .. it must be functional ..

I also tested it on a macbook white ... and it has the same symptoms.

I am using this mouse for about 20 months, so .. It seems that many users have this problem starting this year 2012 with their Magic Mouse ..
