G4 10.3 vs Motorola SB 5120 my modem is winning and I have lost my internet
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if their is a problem with my G4 733 tower or my Motorola SB 5120 cable modem?
I was previously using a linksys router to split my broadband connection to a PC and my G4 but not that my router is not working I have the cable modem going directly in to my mac via cat5 cable not USB.
since my router has been out of the chain the connection keep going down every two or three days.
after the connection fails i have to unplug and re plug in the power for the modem.
60% of the time I can then open the network preferences and renew DHCP wait a minute or so and be back online.
the other 40% i have to restart my computer and my modem and even after that sometimes i have to play around with the network settings.
I thought that the problem was that i left Bit torrent open all the time and cant change the port setting in my router anymore, but after not using BT for a week and still having the problem I think My or OSX in general may not like the modem. (Motorola Surf Board 5120) when I first got Broad band I had a surfboard 4200 plugged straight in to my mac and never had a problem.
their are a lot of things that could be effecting this problem and i should just go and get a new router but has anyone had a similar problem with the surf board line of modem or dose apple suggestion a specific modem for broad band?
thanks
