I have an Imac, OSX 10.7.1 Lion and Mail V5.0. It's all been running swimmingly but now my outgoing mail server (BT) is saying it's offline in accounts and I can't send mail. Anyone found a solution to this, I know it's been a problem for a long time but thought it had been resolved.

Have you tried Mail Menubar/Mailbox/Online Status/Take xxxx Online. Then try to Send.

Thanks for your feedback. Mailbox status is now saying online but mail is not getting through. I am getting the message 'sending the message content to the server failed'.
What email account are you sending from and what Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) are you using. Look in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information/Outgoing Mail Server
Outgoing Mail server: btinternet.com.
Incoming Mail server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
I have this problem too, but with Snow Leopard. The server is Virgin and on the first try it says" Broadband (Offline). Try this server Broadband" and on the second attempt the mail gets sent.
I have this problem also mine is smtp.123-reg.co.uk my incoming is working fine but my out going is saying offline..... any hekp would be more than appreciated!
