I need to convert an imovie mpeg 4 to an mpeg 2 for the local cable company, there stuff will not run it as presented. Is there any way to do that?

Do you have iDVD installed on your Macintosh? Is it in the Applications folder?
Yes, IDVD is on my machine
Open iMovie, drag your .mp4 video into the Project Browser (top half of the iMovie window). Then go to the Share Menu. Share to Media Browser, choose the Large Size. Quit iMovie.
Open iDVD, click the Media button, then the Movies button. In the Media Browser window you will see the iMovie star icon. Under that you should see the name of your iMovie Project. Drag that project into the iDVD project, and then burn your disk. The Local Cable folks should be able to handle it from there I should think, the DVD format will be recorded into full official MPEG2 format per their specification.
