messages icon changed....

A couple of weeks ago my "messages" icon got a silver ring around it and re-named itself "sports." When I clicked on it, a little dialog box opened up underneath it with two icons -- "sports" and "messages." I have no idea why this happened -- perhaps one of my stupid ESPN apps thought it was being helpful.

Anyway, I took away the "sports" sub-icon and the "messages" icon once again called itself "messages." but it still takes 2 clicks to open my messages -- once to get the sub-menu pop-up, and once to actually open my messages. It's really annoying.

How can I get a regular, one-click messages icon back? It doesn't seem to let me delete the messages button, and I've played around with settings like crazy trying to get the normal, one-click messages icon, but nothing seems to work.....

Thanks!

You made a folder with another app and it was automatically named "Sports". Even though you deleted the Sports app, your messages app is still in a folder. Tap and hold the messages folder until all the app icons start to wriggle. Then tap it again to open the folder. Drag the messages icon out from the folder, which will disappear. Press the home button to exit the modification mode.
