I'm watching a video in safari (for example, MSNBC). I close the tab(s) and go to another website. The audio continues. I have to QUIT Safari to stop the audio.

you do not close the window to stop the video:
move your mouse into the window and you will see the command line, and then STOP the video.
In previous versions, closing a window in Safari also killed the video. Now in some cases closing a window does NOT end the video. That's the question. Is it a bug or a feature?

that doesn't sound normal, and must be most annoying - does the same thing happen in a new or guest user account on your mac ?.

I think it may be a Flash problem. However, I updated to the latest version and it didn't help.
It happens consistently when looking at sites like MSNBC and the videos there.
For instance, MSNBC video running > in the same window/tab open another site > audio from the MSNBC site keeps going.
I have to kill the whole window or quit Safari altogether.
I have similar problem, however quiting safari does not solve problem..when I reopen safari the same music keeps playing...are there any technical articles from Apple on this? did you ever get ithis matter resolved?

I have similar problem and it only happens in one account of 2 accounts on the macbook. Any ideas??
Disable any Safari extensions
It always amazes me when someone starts replying to a dead, two year old discussion.
found a solution...go to safari (next to the apple) and in drop down box click on reset Safari. Check all boxes but the passwords and username box and reset.. it fixes the problem..
