Facebook 'Like' not displaying. Please Help - its driving me mad!

I have generated the correct codes from the http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ and I fully understand this process, however once I have positioned the html snippet widget on my iweb page, past the code into the box and click 'Apply'

The faint outline of the box is there but with no content.

Other widgets are working fine, youtube, soundcloud etc.

Facebook does give a choice of codes, iframe, xfbml and html5. I have tried all of these, with the same result each time. No 'like' button and no 'like box'

Please help if you can! Many thanks,

Anna

I did a thing on these buttons here....

... but I don't know how current it is. Perhaps it may help?

Note the html alternate shown on this page. I can remember when I did this or why but it might have been because someone had a similar problem.

Can you tell from this post that I'm not a Facebook fan?

Still having the same issue trying to get a 'like box'

This is the code that the facebook developers page generates for me

<iframe src="//www.facebook.com/plugins/likebox.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com% 2Fpages%2FAnna-Corcoran-Music%2F173909359323639&amp;width=292&amp;colorscheme=li ght&amp;show_faces=false&amp;border_color&amp;stream=true&amp;header=true&amp;he ight=427" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:292px; height:427px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

Do you have any suggestions for an alternate code similar to the one that worked for the 'like' button? And any idea at all why it isn't working? I hate not understanding!

thanks

The facebook code has converted the URL to html. In this code, I am converting it back to plain language...

<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http://www.facebook.com/pages/Anna-Corcoran-Music/173909359323639" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; width:292px; height:50px"><iframe>

Note that I have kept the FB width of 292 px but changed the height to 50 px. I take it that they make the frame higher to accomodate the names of all your fans as they are added. I'll let you be the judge of how high it needs to be to fit them all in!

The FB codes are designed to be inserted in the html of a web page. I doubt if the FB techs have heard of iWeb - never mind an HTML Snippet. Some sites do actually recognize iWeb and provide a code. Most others provide and iframe or embed code in plain language for this purpose.

The iWeb Snippet is useful for quickly inserting code into a page but there are a lot of situations were it doesn't work too well and needs some code hacking.

No, I missed out some stuff in the above for simplicity. The stream is declared as "true" here...

<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http://www.facebook.com/pages/Anna-Corcoran-Music/173909359323639&width=292&colo rscheme=li ght&amp;show_faces=false&amp;border_color&amp;stream=true&amp;header=true&amp;h eight=427" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:292px; height:427px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

Be aware, when you copy code, that unwanted spaces can occur in the result. Note how the code you pasted above appears with an extra space here...

stream=true&amp;header=true&amp;he ight=427"

Wow, facebook is the devil. I'm having a similar problem to the original poster and have used the alternative code which worked! How do I tweek it to get the simpler like button with just the number of likes next to it? I hope it's as easy as the previous fix, because my nerves are about to fry!

this is what I'm using now...it works, but prompts user for a comment...I just want the button that counts

When I used to form on the Dev page to generate the iWeb Html Snippet code, it didn't work...made an empty box. Then I found this post and used your alternate html suggestion. What I'm hoping to do is have the like button that only shows a number after it and does not prompt the 'liker' to add a comment. I don't even know if it's possible, but I'm hoping so.

Yeah, I did. Using that form didn't work for me in iweb, but I found code that you suggested and used that, but it doesn't appear to have any reference to individual button types...sorry to be dense, but this is all very confusing to me. I am forced to do this all myself as I can't afford to pay a professional as I should just yet.

Code below is what I managed to make work. I pasted IT into the html snippet thing in iWeb and voila!!!! the button appears. (the iframe one that the facebook dev page form generated wouldn't work) I'd just like to have the button that only counts and doesn't prompt for comments as I'd have to rearrange the page design, and it was nightmarish enough getting where I am so far. If I have to start over, I'll cry. Not cute.

Is this the like button you want on your page?

Look at the source of the HTML Snippet. I use the <iframe> :

Simply copied/pasted the code you're struggling with.
