Q: No sound from the internet

Have you tried using another browser? If not, that would be a good first troubleshooting step.

I would suggest trying Firefox.

what kind of content are you trying to view?  youtubes, imovie trailers, flash games?  try going to http://trailers.apple.com/ and checking for sound there.  you can also try in a new user on the computer to see if it is preference related

Interesting. The trailers link posted by mvimp works for me, but other websites I still cannot get any sound from.

I've been trying the BBC website, which always worked before, but nothing now!

Any ideas?

How big is the hard drive and how much space remains available on it?

How much RAM is installed?

The problem is highly unusual because usually when there is a problem with sound, it's universal (across all apps, not just the browser). And this is even more strange than that, where it works on some sites and not others.

Could you please give us a link to a web page where the sound isn't working for you?

This is a really goofy idea, so excuse me if you think it's insulting. On the YouTube page, when you click on the speaker symbol next to the play triangle, is the slider for the volume set all the way to the right for maximum volume? This has happened to me a time or two, where the volume on YouTube is non-existent. Somehow, the volume got set all the way down, and it carried over then to every YouTube video. It took me a long time to figure out what had happened.

No, I wasn't the original poster, just weighing in!

My problem seems to have been cured (for now at least!) with a good old fashioned reboot.

I'll keep my eye out and come back if it reappears.
