iPod doesn't power up

My iPod always has problems with powering up, when i didn't use it for some time. I then always have to put the "hold" button in and out, plug the earphones in and out, push the play-button several times and so on... one of these actions always work to power it up, but I can't believe that this is the proper way how this should work 😉. What also makes me curious is, that the battery seems to discharge while my iPod is powered off... is this normal?
I already tried the updates, resets and stuff but this didn't resolve the issue.
