You have several good ways to Restart your iPhone.
1. You can let your battery run all the way down, your iPhone will turn OFF and then you charge it back up, it will turn ON in less than 4 minutes. You should be doing this once to a couple times per month for best battery performance anyway, according to the most experienced users on this forum.
2. You can squeeze (pinch) the Power Button top corner front glass to the back case while pushing the Power Button and the Power Button will usually function.
3. Settings App>General>Reset near bottom>Reset Network Settings. This will restart your iPhone, and I believe this will function fairly close to or exactly like a Hard Reset. Nothing will change on your iPhone.
4. Settings App>General>Reset near bottom>Reset All Settings. This will restart your iPhone, it will not delete anything, but it will reorganize things like Apps. I do not like using this feature myself.
Enable Assistive Touch:Tap settings, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch and tap AssistiveTouch to on. Tap the dark circle to open the assistive touch menu, then tap Device and tap and HOLD the lock screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider
hahah, first diesel vdub says "not possible" and then tries to school someone for improving the original answer.
I'll add my thanks to markmurphz for providing the best answer here regardless of timeline.
Not possible.
I agree with Jokin Gonzalez the second solution 2 years later using the assistive touch button is better for me as I searched for this answer it was first on google I prefer markmurphz solution. And I just plugged my device into a computer and or charger and it powers on.
You're full of crap, buddy -- not only was your reply to the issue totally off base, but there is always benefit in adding additional information. Mind your own business if you're not going to contribute.
Actually, please don't speak for the rest of us DieselVdub. Are you the forum police. I actually benefitted from MarkmurphZ's answer "2 years later!" I think repeating an answer to a question or being redudant is inappropriate, however a new answer to a 2 year old problem is totally appropriate.
An even quicker way to restart iPhone if you're using the latest iOS update with the addition of "bold text" capability is this: Go to "Settings-General-Accessibility-Bold Text".... as soon as you toggle the bold text option it immediately prompts you to restart using your touch screen! If you don't want bold text just reverse the process! This is the quickest way I've found to restart your iPhone if your lock button is dead like mine. :)
"Please look at the time/date stamp on every thread before replying. Adding comments to a 2 year old thread that has already been marked as solved provides no benefit."
Because it makes so much more sense to accept a less optimal answer just because it was first? Jeez…the only thing worse than a guy trying to improve a person's chances for overcoming a problem is a guy who contradicts his own advice by adding something completely worthless to a 2 year old thread, especially after he answered the OP first with an incorrect answer.
This method works better for me (and others, clearly), and is the closest to the functionality of the actual button. If anything, this answer should have been elevated as a preferred solution to the OP's issue.
I just wanted to let you know that I have iphon5 and my actual on-off button is malfunction for about a month now. Today I'm googling it right now and Markmurphz solutions came up, and it worked for me. Kudos to him. I didn't know why you got upset over his solutions. Be open minded we are here to help fellow iphone users.
I know this is 4 years later from original post, but...
Go to Settings...General...Reset...Then choose what type of Reset you want.
If you want a hard reset choose "Erase All Content and Settings"
This is the only way I know of to to hard reset or erase an iPhone when the lock (or power button) is damaged.
Hope this helps someone!
Thank you for the suggestion Brad805, I like the first suggestion the best and it worked.
I appreciate the feedback.

Well, this thread still shows up first on Google, and its a better solution than the original resolution to the probem, is it not...?
Not really - the opening post said his power button doesn't work and he wanted to reset. If he follows your advice and turns his iPhone off, how does he turn it back on again?
