I have a first-generation Apple TV, and I've been using it mostly as a music server-- I keep all of the music in my iTunes library (about 40GB worth) on the Apple TV, and when I want to listen to music, I can just use the Remote application on my iPad to pick the music I want to listen to.

Recently I discovered that all of my songs weren't actually on the Apple TV anymore-- it appears that only the ones I have checked in iTunes are on the AppleTV.  I have manual sync turned on in iTunes, and I have the sync settings for music set to "entire library."  There isn't a setting in iTunes that says whether to sync everything or just the checked items.  Is there a way to get it to sync my entire iTunes library to the Apple TV?  Is this something that changed in some recent version of iTunes?

I know I can stream songs from my Mac to the Apple TV, but I don't have my Mac powered up all the time, and I don't really want to start doing this, especially since there's ample hard disk space on the Apple TV to store everything.

Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks a lot...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

That's what the checkboxes are for, they need to be checked before the Apple TV will either sync or stream that particular content. It's always been that way

Maybe it's always been that way and I only recently noticed it.  But here's the thing-- with an iPhone or iPad, iTunes gives me the ability to sync either just the checked stuff or everything.  That option is missing for the Apple TV, and the UI is misleading ("Entire iTunes library" doesn't mean that).  I have stuff checked so that I don't have to sync everything to my iPhone or iPad, but I still want it all to go to the Apple TV, and it looks like there's no way to do that.

    Is that correct?

Use Playlists to hold the content you want to sync to your iPods etc and then just check everything, assuming there isn't anything that you don't want on your Apple TV.

Yeah, you're right; that's probably the best way to handle it.  Thanks!
