Mac mini shuts off during startup

Yesterday it was working fine but since this morning it stopped booting. When I press the power button, it shows white screen and then Apple logo and then suddenly shuts off. I'm running Macmini late 2009 model with Lion OSX.

I'm actually using Apple Wireless Keyboard and was waiting to borrow a wired one from my friend to use this option. After your comment I thought of trying the same with my Wireless one and surprisingly it worked.

I get into the recovery mode and tried Disk Utility.. and it says.. :(

Invalid node structure

Rebuilding catalog B-tree.

Disk full error

The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired.

What should I do next?

- in case I need my data

- in case I don't

I sure hope you have a backup of your data. If you don't, chances are you won't be able to recover it since it appears you can't get into the system to run a Time Machine backup.

Try the SMC reset. May or may not work.

Power off your Mac mini.

Press and hold the CONTROL - OPTION - SHIFT and Power button for 10 seconds; then release.

Power on your Mac mini and check results.

If the above doesn't work......

Since you're able to use the built-in Recovery HD, you can erase and reformat the Macintosh HD partition from Disk Utilities. If that's successful, then back out of Disk Utilities and run the OS X Lion Install. This will redownload Lion from the App Store (assuming you purchased from there) and install Lion. You must have a WiFi connection to do this.

It seems to me your only options are to restore from a Time Machine backup or clone. Or erase/reformat your drive, reinstall Lion, apps and restore data.

I was ready to erase my drive and reformat, but thank God I didn't give up so early.

One day, out of the blue, the grey screen with the Apple logo and spinning thing would show up while booting and just stay on that without actually fully booting. Sometimes, it wouldn't even get to the grey screen and would just turn off for no reason.

Single User mode would boot, fsck command told me Invalid Sibling Link, Disk Full Error and my drive could not be repaired.

Verbose Mode didn't work. My computer would just simply turn off when I tried booting it.

Safe Boot didn't work at all.

Target Mode with my friend's Macbook Pro opened up fine, and I could see all my files. I tried running Disk Utilities. Verifying my drive would say my computer could not be repaired and that I should erase it.

Thank God I didn't give up. I cloned my entire drive to an external HD connected to my friend's Macbook (I did this just in case I had to erase my Mini's internal HD. I tried Disk Utilities a few times, it still gave me the same message. I got DiskWarrior, and repaired my drive within seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My computer was back to normal!!!
